Inside Number Five. 2026.

Life in Ruins? is a proposal to transform a ‘ruin’ in Cammarata, Sicily—acquired through the One Euro House Scheme—into a living sculpture garden. Instead of restoring the structure, the project treats the ruin as an ecological partner, allowing time, weather, and vegetation to shape the site with minimal intervention.

  • Life in Ruins?
  • Scope: Artwork
  • Type:  Site-Specific
  • Details: One Euro House (Site)
  • Location: Cammarata,  (AG), Sicily, Italy
  • Status: Research, Site scouting,
  • Year: Unknown

The ruin becomes a threshold between past and future, built and unbuilt, human and non-human. Local species gradually inhabit and transform the space, with ecology serving as the primary architect. Observation and documentation inform the ongoing process.

This open-ended, generative project invites public engagement and learning, with its development documented for potential exhibition. It aims to contribute to the resurgence of nature within Cammarata’s historic centre. Currently in progress, the project explores alternative spatial practices, highlights ruins as fertile environments, and provides a community space for memory, connection, and renewal.
